The Density Dependence of the Symmetry Energy in Heavy Ion Collisions
نویسنده
چکیده
The density dependence of the nuclear symmetry energy is important from very low densities in supernova explosions, to the structure of neutron rich nuclei around saturation density, and to several times saturation density in neutron stars. Heavy ion collisions are the only means to study this density dependence in the laboratory. We discuss the knowledge and uncertainty of the symmetry energy and the parameterizations used in heavy ion collisions. Transport theories are necessary to extract the symmetry energy from heavy ion collisions and we discuss their uncertainties and challenges. We finally study in detail two examples, which relate particularly to the high density symmetry energy, which is of particular interest today. These are the preequilibrium emission of nucleons and light clusters, and the π−/π+ yield ratios. For the last case we point out the inconsistencies in the theoretical analyses of different groups and we discuss the open problems.

Modeling Magnetic Field in Heavy ion Collisions Using Two Different Nuclear Charge Density Distributions
By studying the properties of matter during heavy-ion collisions, a better understanding of the Quark-Gluon plasma is possible. One of the main areas of this study is the calculation of the magnetic field, particularly how the values of conductivity affects this field and how the field strength changes with proper time. In matching the theoretical calculations with results obtained in lab, two diffe...
متن کاملDetermining the Density Dependence of the Nuclear Symmetry Energy Using Heavy-ion Reactions
We review recent progress in the determination of the subsaturation density behavior of the nuclear symmetry energy from heavy-ion collisions as well as the theoretical progress in probing the high density behavior of the symmetry energy in heavy-ion reactions induced by high energy radioactive beams. We further discuss the implications of these results for the nuclear effective interactions an...
متن کاملLight cluster production in intermediate energy heavy-ion collisions induced by neutron-rich nuclei
The coalescence model based on nucleon distribution functions from an isospin-dependent transport model is used to study the production of deuteron, triton, and He from heavy-ion collisions induced by neutron-rich nuclei at intermediate energies. It is found that the emission time of these light clusters depends on their masses. For clusters with same momentum per nucleon, heavier ones are emit...
متن کاملProgress Towards Determining the Density Dependence of the Nuclear Symmetry Energy Using Heavy-Ion Reactions
The latest development in determining the density dependence of the nuclear symmetry energy using heavy-ion collisions is reviewed. Within the IBUU04 version of an isospinand momentum-dependent transport model using a modified Gogny effective interaction, recent experimental data from NSCL/MSU on isospin diffusion are found to be consistent with a nuclear symmetry energy of Esym(ρ) ≈ 31.6(ρ/ρ0)...
متن کاملHigh Density Behaviour of Nuclear Symmetry Energy and High Energy Heavy-Ion Collisions
High energy heavy-ion collisions are proposed as a novel means to obtain information about the high density (HD) behaviour of nuclear symmetry energy. Within an isospin-dependent hadronic transport model using phenomenological equations of state (EOS) for dense neutron-rich matter, it is shown that the isospin asymmetry of the HD nuclear matter formed in high energy heavy-ion collisions is dete...
